Working with L&R Consulting as an associate, Peter White was appointed to provide the Business Planning Role to Calderdale Council for the Piece Hall in Halifax. The council had recently secured HLF funding for a stage 2 bid to transform the building into a vibrant creative hub.

The capital scheme was estimated at £16m. Clearly we were delighted to have been selected following a competitive tendering exercise and were excited at the prospect of helping determine the future of this prestigious Grade I listed building, which is seen to be a major driver for the success of the town centre and of the cultural quarter in particular.

Peter White was responsible for preparing large sections of the business plan in particular all the revenue forecasting which was finally approved, releasing the funding for the restoration and development work to be undertaken.

Working with Rodney Melville and Partners the leading conservation architects, FLC has been appointed to carry out an options appraisal for this group of listed buildings to the rear of the town hall. The study’s purpose is to determine the best course of action to secure the Stable Block’s future whilst making a positive contribution to the economic and social life of the area.

Green Lane Masjid (another term for a mosque) is a rapidly growing community in Small Heath and one of the larger ones of its kind in Birmingham.

Currently occupying the former Small Heath Baths complex in Green Lane, it is rapidly growing out of its premises and requires additional space for facilities that cannot be easily accommodated in the existing building.

FLC has been appointed to carry out a detailed study of the development options available to the Masjid and to assessing the deliverability of each.

Peter White is working with an embryonic Community Development Trust in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter to develop a strategy to secure the initial funding required to establish the organisation and then create a sustainable business model that will ensure the trust’s on-going development.

Fresh Life Consulting has been appointed by Birmingham Conservation Trust to work with the team led by Rodney Melville and Partners to carry out a feasibility study of this Victorian Gateway building, with the objective of finding a viable future for of all that remains of this major Birmingham Workhouse. It now forms part of the Dudley Road Hospital site which in 2016 will be largely vacated by the NHS and be sold for redevelopment. Securing an appropriate, economic re-use for the building is therefore that more urgent if the building is to restored and the area’s important memories and social history preserved for future generations.

FLC is providing re-use potential, economic and development appraisal advice to the team.

Birmingham Conservation Trust is a charity created ‘to preserve and enhance Birmingham’s threatened architectural heritage. Their projects secure the long-term future of buildings at risk, especially those ignored by developers, larger charities and public bodies. They combine sensitive repairs with imaginative new uses for the buildings. Working in partnership with others, the Trust creates attractive places to live, work and play.

L&R Consulting, the well known leisure, heritage and cultural consultants,  have been appointed to advise Birmingham Wheels on possible options for the further development of their operations in Landor Street, Birmingham. They have asked Peter White to join their team to cover the physical and redevelopment issues that impact on the 39 acre site.

FLC have been appointed to front and help organise the Jewellery Quarter Summit Meeting in November ’09.  This major event involving key players from within the industry, local authority, English Heritage and wider community is to be designed to focus on action and delivery.

Turner and Townsend has commissioned FLC to assist them in preparing an option appraisal and development strategy for a redundant listed Church in Toxteth, Liverpool which ‘Livserve’, the social enterprise of a local Anglican parish wishes to re-open for church and community use.

Greets Green Partnership has appointed Peter White to advise on the proposed acquisition of a 1930’s industrial building within their area, intended for conversion to managed workspace. In particular he will be considering alternative ‘visions’ for re-use; carrying out a detailed option appraisal to test alternative proposals and then taking the preferred solution through to business plan stage.

FLC has been commissioned to assist L&R Consulting who are advising the Kidderminster Carpet Museum in their Stage 2 HLF Bid.

More specifically the task is to consider the options for delivery of the workspace to be included in the scheme and to maximising the return on this space, improving as part of this the letability of the space.
